I purchased this and used it three times. The first time it got up to pressure and spun the weight. The second and third would not. It seems there is a tiny gap between the ends of the gasket where steam is leaking out. The manufacturer is going to send me a new gasket but I may try to take the original one out and reinstall it too. Will update the review later based on how this turns out.
8/28/13 Bumped up from 2 stars to 4. The manufacturer sent me the new gasket and after replacing it everything has been fine. Actually I even went back and tried the original one and got it to work. It was a minor issue in production that they didn't have the gasket stretched into the lid right. If you find you have this problem just take out the gasket and reseat it so the ends meet nicely.

I bought this pressure cooker after researching and comparing many models, but was sad when it arrived to realize that it's smaller than advertised. The description says it's 11 inches wide, but it's definitely only 9.6 inches wide. I'm returning it immediately to buy a larger and more expensive model.

I also purchased my Magfesa Pressure Cooker way back in the very early 2003-4 from QVC or HSN (cannot remember which one) and it has been working very well ever since. Once, the rubber gasket around the rim of the lid was worn a few years ago and we called the mfg for a replacement, expecting to pay for it, but they sent us a new one, absolutely free. THAT MADE A BELIEVER OUT OF ME FOR THEIR PRODUCT SERVICE. I will never buy another PC except from these people. Even though they make them in Spain, the quality is superior.
I have tried other PCs, but by far, MAGFESA is the best I have ever used.

I would like an even bigger one, as I can.
It works perfectly and I have owned a Magefesa pressure cooker before.
They should package it better so you don't hear the weight rattling around as you open the box.

I own a bakery and I use this pressure cooker for cooking my diced beef for our meat pies.
It is so simple to use and the beef just falls apart after just 30 minutes in this pressure cooker.
I am probably going to buy another one soon.
The only complaint I have is not being able to buy new seals for this through amazon because they do not ship to New Zealand, but Magefesa in Spain were able to help me there.

I am 43 years old and I cannot picture my mother in the kitchen without a Magefesa pressure cooker. Last summer, she had to buy a new one and she was upset because the company did not have the exact one she had bought who knows when. She bought the 6 liter cooker in Spain, and I bought the 4 liter here. I must say that the cooker was not in perfect condition, it was a bit scratched. I really did not care about that, so I did not return the item. I am extremely happy with this purchase. It is perfect for those who do not want a super fast pressure cooker. It is a bit pricey, but I think it is worth it.

I have used this pressure cooker since 2008. Although I have not cooked a variety of meals using it, I have pressure fried chicken wings 3 to 4 time monthly. After much research (and reading all the scare stories) about pressure frying I chose this 8 qt. model for the safety features and .55kgs/cms2 or in American about 8 psi. This fryer produces 10 wing pieces in 6 min. @ 350 degrees F using 2 qts. peanut oil. I cook as many as 60 pieces in about 40 min. and keep them crispy in a 200 degree oven. The results are outstanding and better than either baked or deep fried. They are cooked to the bone and not dry. My guests say they are the best they have had. As with much cooking/baking, method & materials play a significant role on the path to success. I recommend this Magefesa to be well worth the investment if you and your family/friends want perfectly cooked chicken wings. There is a modest learning curve. Use a thermometer to bring the oil to proper temp. and exercise appropriate caution as hot oil is obviously incredibly dangerous. Time is critical so thoroughly document your times/temp according to your stove-top's characteristics. Once you find your sweet spot ... enjoy!

I've used this Pressure Cooker almost everyday for the last 8 years, and counting. The trick to using one of these is to be certain that the rim where the gasket meets the pot is completely DRY. This ensures a tight seal for fast heating. Also, wash the lid by hand, NOT in the dishwasher. Hand washing the lid will protect the gasket for many years. Enjoy!

I have been trying three different pressure cooker. The first one is broken after first time use. The second one is ok but the pressure not strong enough. I can just use my rice cooker to do the same job. Now I change to this Magefesa cooker because:
1. It is made by "stainless steel" and really heavy.
2. It can hold bigger pressure without any risk to blow out.
3. It was the same model my Mom use 30 years ago.
When you use, make sure that the cover is tight to the pat and rubber is dry. Otherwise, the air will leaking.

Simply put, this pressure cooker does what it was intended to do. It works just fine. The only thing I might comment about is the fact that the handles are not of the greatest quality. Of course, as I say this, I realize that I am probably at fault. You have to assemble the handles yourself. It's a simple process, a plastic handle, a screw, and a hole in which to screw the handle into. Basic, even for a tool challenged person such as myself. So, instead of using a basic screw driver, I decided to be fancy and used a drill. I must have been an eager beaver, because I over drilled the thing, and the handle simply snapped in half. Of course, this does not in any way, shape, or form affect the way the pressure cooker function operates, and I have been using it successfully ever since. It's just annoying having only one handle. So, could the handle have been made with better, stronger material? Maybe. But of course, using a drill wasn't smart either, so...
At any rate, if you are looking for a big pressure cooker like I was, this one works just fine. Just be careful when screwing the handles in place...they are quite fragile! Enjoy!

I am no pressure cooker expert, but of the few I have tried this on is the best ever. It is very simple to use and clean up is easy. Just seat the lid and screw down the knob on top which lifts the bar to give a safe and secure seal. If the cooker builds up too much pressure, there are 3 safety features to release the excess pressure- the third being that the bar bends, which I think is pretty clever. If that ever happens the bar can easily be replaced through their web site ([...]).
For cooking it does a great job. I can cook pinto beans from dry to done in just 25 min under pressure. Unlike cooking them in a pot on the stove, they maintain their shape nicely since there is no stirring when using a pressure cooker as there is with stove top cooking. You can cook nearly anything in the pressure cooker in a fraction of the time with great results; soups, stews, stocks, potatoes, beans, meats, sauces, and more. So when the clock hits 4 and you realize that you forgot to thaw the meat or soak the beans- no worries- the pressure cooker can handle it :)
If you can afford the price tag on this one, then get it. You won't be disappointed.

We received the Magefesa Star R 10 Quart Pressure Cooker very quickly. This has to be the best pressure cooker on the market and at the best price too. It has a heavy bottom and is built safe and solid. This is our second and larger Magefesa pressure cooker and we couldn't be happier with them both. The 10 quart size allows cooking with alot of ingrediants and for more people and is a nice versital size cooker.

I have had the Magefesa 8L STAR R since 2004. I bought it at a Home Show and probably overpaid for it (compared to AMAZON!). Regardless, this thing is built like an army tank! 3 safety features mean you are not going to paint the ceiling with a pot roast or more importantly scald anyone in the kitchen. You can buy cheaper PC's with lots of plastic on them, or you can buy a MAG with all metal parts (except for the handles and gasket). This thing is 18/10 INOX not that cheap-*ss thin aluminum like they sell at Wally-World. I'll admit I had sealing problems at first but I took the gasket out of the lid and washed it with a combination of dish washing detergent and white vinegar. Since then no sealing problems.
The food this thing makes is outstanding. The included trivet/insert makes the PC very versitile.
If you are not dumber than the directions (or me), you will love and trust this PC. PC's are the original microwave (fast cooking) and this Magefesa just brings a lot more to the table than the cheaper ones do, literally.
Get a good PC cookbook to compliment your MAG, my advice.

When I received the pressure cooker, there was no steam basket. So I asked for one and received a tiny little one that does not fit. To bad because I won't be able to do steam vegetables!
