How to verify my email domain with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC

How to verify my email domain with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC

To verify your email domain in Revi, go to Email domains, add the domain if it is not listed yet, and click Show configuration or Validate domain. Revi will show the DNS records that you need to copy into your domain, hosting, or DNS provider panel.

DNS validation is the recommended option and the one required to send emails from your own domain. SPF, DKIM, and DMARC must be correct. If you already have an SPF record, do not create a second SPF record: edit the existing one and add include:revi.services alongside the other values. Also copy the HOST value exactly as shown in Revi, because some providers append the domain automatically.

DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate. After adding them, go back to Revi and click Verify to check the status. If the red Domain pending validation message still appears, check that there are not multiple SPF or DMARC records, that the DKIM value matches the value shown, and that you are validating the domain for the correct app.

If you cannot edit DNS records, you can use file verification as an alternative: download the file, upload it to the public root of your website, and click Verify. This proves that you own the domain and can enable the valid domain badge on your public page, but it does not authenticate the sender or allow emails to be sent from your own domain; emails will still be sent from revi.services.

Open a ticket only if the DNS records or the file are already accessible, you have clicked Verify again, and the domain still appears as pending in Revi or on the My reviews page. Include the domain, a screenshot of the DNS setup or file URL, and the app ID.

Where do I find the DNS zone in my provider (GoDaddy, IONOS, etc.)?

If your domain or hosting provider does not show the DNS zone where you expected, look for it in the domain management section. These are the most common names by provider:

  • GoDaddy: DNS → Manage DNS.
  • Raiola Networks: DNS Zone → DNS Editor / DNS Zone Editor.
  • IONOS (1&1): DNS → DNS Settings / Manage DNS Zone.
  • CDmon: Domains → DNS Management / Edit DNS Zone.
  • SiteGround: Site Tools → Domains → DNS Zone / DNS Zone Editor.
  • Hostinger: Domains → DNS / DNS Zone Editor.
  • DonDominio: Domains → DNS Zone / Record Editor.
  • HostGator: cPanel → Zone Editor / Advanced Zone Editor.
  • Google Domains: DNS / DNS Settings.
  • cPanel (generic): Domains → Zone Editor / DNS Zone Editor.

cPanel note: long DNS records may be cut off when pasted. Use the + button to add another line and paste the rest of the record there.

If your provider is not on the list, look in their panel for "DNS", "DNS Zone", "DNS Editor" or "Domain Management". If you cannot find it, ask their support and tell them you need to add three TXT records (SPF, DKIM and DMARC).

Activate the sender (verification email)

Always validate the email domain first and then the first sender of that domain. In Email Settings > Senders, add the address from which you want to send and open the verification email link.

The address can be an alias and does not need a separate mailbox, but the alias must correctly forward the message and allow opening the link. Check spam, promotions, and the original message in webmail. If the email indicates to click a link but the button or URL does not appear, forward the verification from Revi and, if it happens again, open a ticket with a screenshot and the original message file.

After verifying a first sender, any new sender from the same validated domain is automatically activated. If the domain changes, the new domain must be validated and then its first sender, even if there was a validated sender in the previous domain.

When the domain and some senders are validated, Revi uses one of the available senders. If any validation is missing, invitations are sent with a sender from revi.services. You can also temporarily stop automatic invitations while you complete the process.

Why is Revi asking me to verify my domain again if I already did?

If you already verified your domain some time ago and Revi is asking you to check the records or sender again, it is usually not a misconfiguration on your side: there are external changes that invalidate the previous verification.

Common causes:

  1. Revi's automatic periodic check. Revi re-verifies your DNS records periodically. If it detects that a record has disappeared, changed or no longer passes validation, it notifies you even if you have not touched anything.
  2. Changes in email delivery policies. Providers like Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook have hardened their DMARC policies. If your domain still has a permissive DMARC record (p=none) or no DMARC at all, emails from your domain may be flagged as suspicious. Revi notifies you to update DMARC to a stricter policy (p=quarantine or p=reject).
  3. DKIM keys modified in your DNS. If your email or hosting provider rotated the DKIM key, you switched providers or someone modified the DNS records, the DKIM signature Revi set up no longer matches and the record needs to be regenerated.

What to do:

  1. Open Email domains.
  2. Open your domain and click Show configuration.
  3. Compare the records Revi shows with the ones in your DNS:
    • If DKIM does not match, replace the record in your DNS with the one Revi shows.
    • If SPF is incomplete, add the include Revi indicates to the existing SPF.
    • If DMARC is missing or set to p=none and your domain sends email, update it to at least p=quarantine.
  4. Once the DNS records are updated, wait a few minutes for propagation and click Verify again on the panel.

If you received a generic DMARC email from Google or Yahoo and are not sure what it affects, check every service that sends email from your domain, not only Revi: the issue usually affects all senders for the domain. If after updating the records it still does not verify, open a ticket with the affected domain and the approximate date of the last DNS change.

Benefits of verifying your domain

Verifying your domain is more than a technical requirement: it unlocks key features for email deliverability, SEO and visibility on Google.

1. Better deliverability and compliance with email policies. SPF, DKIM and DMARC records authorize Revi to send emails on behalf of your domain and protect them against spoofing. Without this, review invitations may end up in spam or not arrive at all — Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook increasingly block emails without proper authentication.

2. Better ranking on Google. A verified domain enables Rich Snippets, which display star ratings in Google's organic search results. It also helps Google correctly associate your store with your reviews.

3. Access to advanced Revi features. Some features require a verified domain:

  • Public review certificate linked to your verified domain.
  • Advanced widgets bound to your domain.
  • Google Shopping Ratings integration.
  • Custom emails using your own domain as the sender.
