El autor, Thomas Engqvist, ha pasado años estudiando las partidas de Petrosian, y se nota que es un gran conocedor y admirador del estilo del gran Tigran, un jugador tan fuerte como incomprendido. El libro, como casi todos los de esta serie, cumple su objetivo de instruir al lector a partir de una muy buena selección de partidas con extensos y atinados comentarios. En variantes concretas los módulos más recientes pueden dar una valoración diferente de la que daban módulos de hace unos años, pero los comentarios acerca de valoraciones estratégicas, planes concretos, son plenamente vigentes y de alto valor educativo. En mi opinión, este de Engqvist y los de Zenón Franco se cuentan entre los mejores de la serie por su lenguaje sobrio (no como los de Lakdawala, de estilo florido que a veces me resulta indigesto, por mucho que el fondo de los comentarios sea atinado y/o correcto) y su equilibrio entre información acerca del jugador, su estilo y contribución al ajedrez (no muy abundante porque el enfoque de estos libros es otro), y comentarios de alto nivel a las partidas, que los autores saben hacer asequibles a jugadores mediocres y voluntariosos como un servidor. Disfruto leyendo "Petrosian move by move" de Engqvist y siento que aprendo al hacerlo, al tiempo que conozco mejor a Petrosian, un jugador al que siempre he admirado y del que no abundan las colecciones de partidas con comentarios a la altura de las mismas. Este es, en ese sentido, una espléndida rareza.
